I work with a guy who -always- cuts it to the last minute - “Naah, you don’t need to get the airport as early as they tell you!”
He’s managed to miss five flights in less than year, mostly due to traffic delays and TSA holdups. After missing two client visits, having to pay re-book fees (and pay through the nose for last-minute fares), and forking over the bucks for three extra nights on the road, the company has told him he’ll be fired if he does it again this year. 
Lol. Depends on your airport. Here, with absolutely no one in line (possible if you’re so late for a flight that everyone is already checked through), then you can be in your seat in 15-20 minutes.
