Just making sure....

Don't you mean flight number? It was a commercial flight.

Right. I'm wondering what actual aircraft went down. ACARSD.org couldn't deliver the info.

I thought of that after I hit "submit"....

No matter.

Just heard on CNN that the authorities had for some reason opened the front doors to allow water to flood it. The tail is partially submerged, the rear fuselage is completely submerged, the nose is partially submerged, the end (tip) of the left wing is still above the water, the right wing is submerged.

Check tomorrow's Preliminary Accident and Incident Data Reports. Quite often they will give both the flight number and the tail number.

From what I could see (nice picture of a chopper skid right now), that would be an accurate description

FlightAware was mentioned and USA1549's track (on a Google Earth overlay) on CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer 15-20 min. ago. The site semi-crashed almost immediately after, and my browser kept timing out until just now. In other words, I couldn't get into the forums. Anyone else have that problem?

Only relative minor injuries. All passengers accounted for. Most severe injuries are some possible broken bones and some minor cases of hypothermia. Completely unbelievable!!! Thanks for being tolerant of all my posts as I'm more of a lurker but I thought all you aviation nuts(like me) would eant to get as much info as possible.

Yes.

Wolf needs to stop talking at times, although he's world's better than that empty bag Cavuto.

Wikipedia is being a bit of a news source. By my reckoning they had an article 45 minutes or less after the crash.

Folks this is two major crashes in a month where the planes' design and probably tremendous work by the pilots has meant no lives lost. I am so proud of the pilots. Can you believe how difficult this landing must have been? Getting control of the jet with limited or maybe even no power over the top of the largest city in the country and safely ditching with no loss of life. Heck, when they dry it out they may even be able to use the plane again with new engines. Just amazing the work there, amazing.

Don't listen to anything the media says, particularly TV talking heads...their clueless speculation on aviation matters is ridiculous.

As was shown in the pictures, they opened the front doors because they were above water, allowing them to deploy life rafts and get more people out.

You're right; it's unbelievable. They need to be awarded every medal for airmanship that is awarded.

LGA operations seem to be running, in fact Donald Trump's VP-BDJ (B721) is outbound to Palm Beach as of 5:11 EST. NY officials to give press conference momentarily.

The guys at Airbus, and all operators of that plane, should make additions to the POH on "what to do when..."
Then have this incident on there, described by the pilots themselves telling what and how they did it, as well as the jetBlue nosegear issue at LAX. 2 potentially disastrous situations with great outcomes.

Wolf Blitzer just said that the pilot had considered making a landing attempt at Teterboro. "Landing strip" he called it. Another anchor on CNN made mention of Newark as well.

I agree - the pilot flying did a helluva job in ditching the plane!!

US Airways Web site flight status report shows "Status Exception" and provides an 800 number to call.

I hope it's o.k. to chuckle at this line from the Wikipedia article:

"At 5:07 PM EST Doug Parker, the CEO of US Airways, gave a press conference in which he confirmed that the crash was due to an accident."

iReport has several - well, lots - of pictures, some of which have been shown on CNN. One shows lines of passengers standing on the wings. I think Flickr and similar sites have pictures as well. Has anyone checked Twitter? I don't have an account there, so I can't.

YouTube has a bunch of videos. I don't know if any of them are worth watching. They look like either recorded news, or film of TV news.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=US+Airways+1549&search_type=&aq=f

There's a link.

I believe that the aircraft is now being towed. On CNN, it looks like the tow vessel is a large fire boat, possibly FDNY.
