Laughing Laughing Meek your a freak! And a funny one at that.

Augustaresident ...flyboy is correct..flying the glass is cool...but you're gonna be vfr-ing it for awhile..see and BE SEEN! Oh and the 182? Standby bro...that little girl has alot of ponies to show off with a constant speed prop I'm sure...(the three bladed one for sure.) Its been awhile Laughing stick with a 172 while training....then transition into the 182. Great plane for x-countries. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Definatly stay with the good ol' boy, the 172 is tride and true for a reason, i dont see why a transition to the 182 later would be such a bad thing however as long as like Flyboy said KEEP YOU EYES OUTSIDE, but there would really only be the prop system to learn which doesnt take long. It wouldnt be A complex but it would be a high performance endorsment on you ticket.

Agreed! It is just nice know that this school has "modern" equipment that is being used today.

As a side note, I found out that a certain CFI sued one of his students for making a hard landing in his prized 172. When I was there, renters insurance never came up and I was under the assumption that I was covered flying his plane. I am going to ask the new school this before I fly the first time. I can see the complaint if you were simply renting the plane for the day and damaged it but to be an active student on your first solo flight? YIKES.....

Accident occurred Thursday, August 03, 2006 in Augusta, GA
Probable Cause Approval Date: 12/28/2006
Aircraft: Cessna 172M,
Injuries: 1 Uninjured.
The student pilot was observed to start his landing flare at 50 feet above the runway. The airplane made a hard landing. The student pilot stopped the airplane and completed an engine shutdown. The airplane was towed to the parking ramp. Examination of the airplane revealed the engine firewall and cockpit floor was buckled.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:

The pilot's improper flare on landing with excessive altitude resulting in a hard landing.

Full narrative available

Colonel Mustard did it in the bedroom with a wiffle-ball bat!
Oooops! Wrong thread...

Is James McMakin of Mcair Aviation Services the nameless CFI who nearly killed your dream of becoming a pilot??? Wink

I find it very telling that the plane's owner went after the student for damages. That job usually goes to the plane's insurer! Confused

Shootin' from the hip, I'd say the plane wasn't insured.

I said I would not mention names and that's why I omitted the tail number but it is easy to find that info out. But...........You done well !Wink

Oh, And the part about the law suit on the plane is a fact. I was thinking like you on the insurance. I was serious when I eluded to him being anal about his planes. The only thing is, they are ot that great. Could not use the air vent on the left side UNLESS I was willing to replace it if the tube pulled all the way out. I have left out many many instances of petty things like this.

GOOD! Now if you GOOGLE "James McMakin" CFI, this thread is right at the top of the list so potential new students can read your horror story and save their time and money!

This thread also comes up as #6 when .GOOGLING "Mcair Aviation Services".
