Last I heard was "any day now", that coming from another thread several days ago.

It has been submitted to Apple for their approval.

Since I can't reply to the main announcement (no biggy), I am going to guess that if we still have the original app on our phone/ipod we will need to delete that one and install the new app, correct? Or will it just work like an update?

I think it should update.

It did. Thanks.

Suggestion. Can't delete tail numbers, flights, etc. Knowing me, I am missing something, but I can't find where or how to clear past tracks that I don't need anymore.

There are no history management tools, just a list of what you've searched before.

Is there going to be a smartphone version available (e.g. the Samsung Epix)?

Okay.. It may just be me missing it yet again, but I'm not seeing it in the US App store, nor on AppShopper. I can't get to iTunes right now (at work, and power is out at home from the storm), but I'm definitely not seeing it in any search on my iPhone..

Does it work if you follow the link provided in the release?

Guess what I'm really saying is there going to be an mobile version that is specific to the small screen? My preference would be for a page that shows aircraft tracking only. I don't really need the airport or flight resources pages, although those would be nice in a mobile version, too.

Have the new app. Just a couple observations. The route line isn't displaying on map. And I can only see the most recent flight. Maybe that's by design, but it would be great if all the history was displayed.

And a feature request - implement the iPhone PUSH notifications for the alert phases of flight. That would really be slick. I'm guessing you all are thinking of that one already.

Thanks for getting the app out. Not sure why Apple sat on it for so long. Seems pretty cut and dry.

This is a nice app if you're looking for a specific flight. It would be good better if you could tag a tail number and push a notification out via the badge to the app. Perhaps in the account profile where alerts are configured, you could add an option to send alerts to a specific iPhone with the app.

I couldn't. At work at the time, and the link tried to spawn iTunes, which I couldn't install. Either way, it was firewalled off.

Power is back on at home, and I was able to download it. It showed up finally in the App store.

If I was tracking a particular flight this app would be useful. Unfortunately, I use FA to keep tabs on general airport activity (e.g. what is coming and going from BOS in the next hour) while I'm out spotting. Right now, it doesn't do much for me. Looks like I'll still be using the site on Safari for now but for what the app has it does work pretty well. I would also gladly pay for the app if it had that feature.

Is there any possibility of adding a feature to view the activity (departures and arrivals) of a specific airport?

This is the main reason I use the FlightAware website, and would be more than willing to pay for this feature in an iphone app.

Does anyone out there know of an app already out that would provide this?

At KCLT there is an excellent airport lookout. I stream the tower radio and view the FA website in Safari, but an all-in one, or just the activity monitor would be awesome!

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback on airport activity, guys. The v2 of FlightAware's app is already in development.

I guess me and kefkafloyd were both typing the same question at the same time. You beat me by 3 days joining FA, and 8 min. posting. Weird....

Thanks for the quick response dbaker!
Can't wait!

Is there a way to see a particular airlines or operators entire fleet? The online version has the "all flights" button, but is there way to do that in the app? As an operator, I'd like an easy way to see all my airbourne aircraft at the same time without selecting each tail number.

Thanks!

One thing I noticed was the inability to track a "stub amended" airline flight number. For example, I tried to put in SkyWest 82L (ATC callsign for flight 4557 from SLC to SFO last night) and I am only able to use numbers.

Fleet/Airport activity would be nice, too.

It took 24 hours to update in the search and I found it. Key word Flight will bring it up as about the 4th choice.

DON'T delete the old version if you have the OS prior to 3.0 (or whatever operating system your Itouch came with). The new version is not compatible with the older operating system

This makes sense on why I didn't get an update notification for the original release.

Also, may want to read the comments before downloading. Hopefully, the comments will improve with the proposed new version coming out.

Just downloaded the iPhone app from iTunes. I was informed via the email to which I subscribe. However, it's rather prone to crashing, and lacks so many features that are available on the web site I'm believe I'll delete it.

Sad that the functionality of the app doesn't live up to the web page.

:(

Just about every comment mirrored what you said hence me saying read the comments. More functionality in Flight Aware to be found in the Safari browser.

But, in defense of the application, it's no different then any other application. I find the Itunes applications really don't match the web site companion (like CNN, New York Times) and I ended up deleting them.

I think as users we tend to forget, the applications are not meant to be as sophisticated as the web page. I see them as trying to extract the basics of the information and deliver them to the users. I use the original version and it delivers nicely.

I haven't had the need to "fix what works" and pony up the 10 bucks to upgrade the operating system of my Itouch (it's free for Iphone users) so, I live without the latest and greatest.

First I want to say thank you to the FlightAware development crew for making this app and for FlightAware for providing it Free.

I own and operate a FBO in Central Wisconsin. I use FlightAware at work and at home. I often have medical and corporate flights coming into my airport. It is great being able to use FlightAware to tell the medical staff or people waiting for the corporate flights, when to expect their flight.

On late night call outs, (usually emergency medical flights), I have been using Safari on my 3G iPhone to pull up my airport and keep track of the progress of the inbound flight as I drive to the airport. The Search for the inbound and outbound flights is certainly the feature I use the most and the feature I'm most looking forward to in your next version.

At this time that is my only complaint about the app, otherwise I think it is great. Thank you again for making it, and I look forward to version 2
