I love the new maps. They work great here from Firefox 3.

Is there any way to access the older static maps? I frequently pull up flightaware in my Blackberry's browser, and the new maps aren't viewable. No complaints, just a question. Thanks!

I think, since we're discussing adding more cities, we should have at least one per state. We have very few showing in the west and central areas.

Thanks for the love, rllacey.

We retained the capability of making static maps. We'll look into how to make them available. Good request.

I like the new maps. I use Mozilla Firefox 3.0.13 and Google Chrome 3.0.193.2 (beta, with an update now available) and both browsers hold up just fine. However, my iPod Touch running Safari has difficulty with the maps. They work, but it's extremely cumbersome. Bringing back the iPhone app that you all had released recently would be great!

EDIT: I just updated to Google Chrome version 3.0.195.4, the latest release of the beta, not the stable. Maps work fine.

It's coming. A number of problems turned up due to inadequate testing on actual iPhones and iPod Touches (the emulator is way faster than the real device), a mistake we won't make again.

(Thinking that you had the iPhone when the app was available) I never deleted the FA app from my phone. It still works just fine except the previously mentioned issues, which aren't a big deal to me.

Good to hear as I never deleted the app from my Itouch either.

Didn't think to check that out.

Off topic, but I am looking forward to the new application if anything for the link which allowed me in the past to create an Itune account without a credit card number. I want to create a valid one with my real email address as the user name rather then my spam catching email address.

I noticed when using them that some aircraft position updates change zoom/pan adjustments previously made back some default view. Any way to lock in adjustments?

Kinda funny if I understand the above, as this sounds like the complete opposite of what I asked??

Regarding the app, I was unaware that it was available until after it was gone. I'm glad to hear that it is on the way back. I've never had the app.

Yes. Please have the old clickable maps accessable. I enjoy saving and printing them out as part of my flight diaries. The new maps are only saving the weather radar...as far as I can tell.

Thanks,
Walter

Sure, we're going to get that going for you. Once the feature is online, you can view your past flights and save them that way.

Would it be possible to make it so you have to click on the map before it starts moving zoom with the wheel?

When I get to a page, I use the wheel to move up and down on the page. Unfortunately, with the zooming maps (a feature I've looked forward to for a while - thanks!) the map starts zooming because the cursor quite often ends up on the map.

I second this comment and request.

Additionally, I try to perform much of my browser navigation with the keyboard. With the new embedded zoom-pan maps, when using up and down (as well as left and right) cursor keys, the map pans (not what I would expect or prefer) along with the browser window moving up or down. By default, it seems the keyboard cursor control keys have focus within the embedded map as well as the active browser frame. (My platform is IE7.)

Regardless, the zoom-pan maps are a long-awaited hit (#1 with a bullet) and kudos to the FA staff and developers for this little gem.

Out of curiosity, what is the status of having working maps on phones (other than the iPhone) again? The area maps still work, but the new maps that are used when tracking a particular flight don't work on several phones that I've tested them on (Blackberries and a few WinMo models).

Keep in mind that there are a LOT of folks out there that don't have iPhones because they can't stand AT&T's "coverage" and/or over-saturated 3G network... Also, some of us can't use neat toys like iPhones at work due to their very limited messaging / encryption capabilities. As it stands now, many of us have lost the ability to track flights with the new maps. Having an option to still view the old maps sounds like a really good idea...

Don't get me wrong - I love the new maps on my computer...they just aren't doing anything for me on my phone. :)

This should be working now.

Still no luck on this end. They're doing the same thing they were doing when I posted that reply earlier.

Testing now on a BlackBerry Storm and a BlackBerry Bold - and no luck on either.

When I click on a specific flight to track, I see a blank blue box (with the orange expand icon in the bottom-right corner) where the map should be / used to be. Nothing ever shows-up in the blue box...

Clicking on the map attempts to open a full-screen map (as it should), but an error pops-up that states: "Your browser does not support vector rendering. Currently supported renderers are: SVG, VML, Canvas"

If you click "ok" you are left with a blank blue box that has the FlightAware copyright in the bottom corner.

Have we seen the death of FlightAware on Blackberries? :(

(just kidding...I know that you guys are on it!)

Thanks,
Matt

I love what you are doing, is great, and love FlightAware. But it fried my Windows 98 machine at home and yes, I know I should upgrade but I'm holding out as long as that PC will stay alive. Would be nice to have a button to keep the old version for us Windows 98 users.

Then it locked up my XP machine at work, think it was either sectional or scrolling that caused it. Maybe set scrolling-level box instead of the plus/minus/mouse roller options.

Are you still having trouble with your Blackberry? It should work now.

The page tries to display new maps on native Blackberry Browser no matter which Browser Identification I select.

Opera Mini displays the new map slightly distorted:

Improving the mobile interface is definitely a priority. As far as the request about map functionality on Blackberry, it seems like it's working now.

Is there a computer whiz here that can tell me what I am doing wrong with the new maps?
When I bring up past flight on the tracker, The classic and sectional displays ok, but the earth view is is black showing only the track and barely visable weather. I have tried IE, Opera 9, chrome, and Safari.
Its got to be somthing dumb that I have done in my setting.
Thanks
