TR Wilson:
Your AOCS experience rang a bell loudly. History seems to repeat itself. I had been in AOCS, commissioned in 1969. Thought I would either career the Navy, or exit after first tour if Delta (et al) was hiring.... In summer of 1970, over 400 were released from training in the RIF of that era, as the DOD thougth Viet Nam was soon to be over. Wrong by about 4 years, but close enough for gov't work. Happened 3 days before my scheduled first carrier landing (in T-28C). I was retained, but had to choose Jets or Helos. Chose Jets, but later Navy said not enough students to make an accelerated class - you & rest are going Helos. Screwed airlines, and somewhat screwed Navy career in those days. Got out, and started civilian life. My flying has been in the passenger cabin since then. Million miler on Delta, but that does not count for much....
