ah the old CMI. Pretty colorful lineup of different equipment!. I must have missed those on the tracker. It seems like the last few years every time I'd look it'd be Embraers or a CR7.
Do you remember the old terminal where the tower is? I remember the open house at the new one back in 90.

in other news,
hopefully Uof I finds better ways to save their 827k by not closing the aviation department as they're talking about!

Yeah, now we're down to just embraers, since Delta pulled out about a month ago. I moved here in 2005, but I know exactly the area that you are talking about. It's right next to Flightstar (the FBO). Now next to the tower is where the Institute of Aviation is. Unfortunately they've decided to pull the trigger on closing it I think. Sad. : Here's some videos from this weeks charter flight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tZpRxNbN8M

Saturday's GA flight....

VFR flight through Houston Bravo

Flight with a friend from KSGR Sugarland TX to KUTS Huntsville TX.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS0i_XDxlgU

Video includes both ATC and in plane communications. I hope this video captures the complexities of working in Bravo airspace such as looking outside the window, situationally aware of where you are, radio congestion, frequency changes galore.

As I admitted in the video, had I been flying, the possibility of busting Bravo airspace would have been very real because I missed a small section that lowered the Bravo floor to 3000. I had studied the flight as if I was PIC and still missed that small chunk of airspace.

As always input most appreciated!

Return trip from Huntsville TX to Sugarland TX through Houston Bravo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z8v6--OeWE

7 3/4 minute video including ATC transmissions of us being advised targets appear likely to merge, another plane asking one thing and getting another, birds look like planes, jets look like pistons, and everything else in between.

Only thing we may have missed was "Superman" It's a bird, it's a plane.

Good reminder why we should use preflight check lists.

Helicopter taking off at Huntsville TX

Something that could have taken seconds on the front end cost him more time in the long run. Also could have been ugly had something heavy come out if there was a subdivision below him.

My flight a couple of weeks ago on SWA.

Gotta LUV technology. Kinda cool that I was able to access FA on the flight and track myself as seen in this video 8)

Sunday's VFR trip to Meridian MS - 2 videos

First 9 1/2 minute video I was passenger.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc9G6koODMk

Much easier to get inside shots and I hope this video gives a good perception of being in the plane. Ipad and Foreflight shots inside this video. Text overlays further explain why I focused on certain things especially for the iPad. Video includes a timelapse of preflight.(Typo on preflight text overlay ooops)

Second 4 1/2 minute video I was PIC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EloMO5LLRE

Unfortunately, due to user error, I got a great recording of ambient sounds therefore no ATC in this video. Sooo... I put the timelapsed enroute portion (55 minutes from wheels up to wheels down) to music. Landing was "technically" horrible and it really reflects my infrequent flying of late.

After I learn the proper method for pushback (or is that pull?) , proper clamping of the tow bar (something needs to be hugged) and knowing how to knot (taking the 5th)!!

Baby steps baby steps for me! Back in training. :P

Cloud and IMC encounters - 2005 - Video

First of a series of videos by year as I go down memory lane.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29Ok0126pfw

My encounters with clouds in 2005 Eight minute video includes a VOR approach down to minimums, ILS approach with ceilings down to 700 and various en route views on the second half of the video. Text overlays for time in year..

Note, some segments have been seen in my other videos, but these are the raw unedited videos.

Cloud and IMC encounters 2006 - Video

2006 was a busy year flying IFR but not many videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfFToFnLI_c

Due to the lengths of the trips (MD, OH, SC KY) I took mostly pictures. This 2 3/4 minute video includes enroute shots of a short XC trip to Cleveland MS and segment to the NE practice area of KMBO

Ok, this is actually a touch harder then I expected, not for the technical part, but figuring out what makes the cut on these next 4 videos!

My goal in these series of videos is to give the viewer a real feel of what it's like inside a cloud as well as appreciate the ambiance outside clouds

My segments are longer, including the time it takes to dip into the cloud to breaking out below. So that no one video is ridiculously long, I broke this out into four parts.

Comments on improving this process most appreciated. (longer / shorter segments?).

I want the emphasis on the beauty of being on top level and below clouds as well as the patience it takes to work in IMC. Hopefully what I am doing thus far conveys this especially with the magic of breaking out on top bottom or even out of a cloud..

Part one 5 3/4 minute encompasses January through July.

Cloud and IMC encounters 2007 Part 1 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTKs7gYn-_M

Practice area work, initial approaches, local IFR departure and enroute videos.

Part two 8 minute video encompasses July through September 2007

Cloud and IMC encounters 2007 Part 2 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmPSBMb6xNM

Video includes practice area work, IFR trip to Baltimore and Ohio

Part three encompassing September and October.

Cloud and IMC encounters 2007 Part 3 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnzquQfD75s

Six minute video includes practice area work, IFR approaches and enroute view on an angel flight.

Part four encompasses October through December.

Cloud and IMC encounters 2007 Part 4 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqQ57tK2nWA

Five minute video includes practice area work, enroute view from Baton Rogue, departure from KMBO into IMC and two approaches.

Seems that 2008 was a turning point where I lowered my minimums big time and had my head in a cloud for a lot of hours. Had lots of videos where I went down to 400 AGL at both KJAN and KHKS but once you seen one video inside a cloud, they all look the same! I made 23 different flights throughout the year of which 6 of them, it was raining inside the clouds, water climbing up the windscreen. And 15 of those videos, I never topped out. Soooo, the below are the highlights of 2008.

Cloud and IMC encounters 2008 Part 1 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrRIKg7mW18

7 1/2 minute video encompassing May only. Video includes ILS into KHKS, ILS into KJAN 600 foot ceilings (25 seconds edited from breaking out to middle marker) and ILS into HKS 700 foot ceilings of which 40 seconds edited from breaking out to middle marker

Cloud and IMC encounters 2008 Part 2 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86zQGtvZCu8

6 3/4 minute video encompassing June through August Video includes ILS into Greenville MS, GPS approach into Oxford MS, departing Oxford and exiting Tropical Storm Faye's outer rainband. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N194 ... /KUOX/KMBO

Cloud and IMC encounters 2008 Part 3 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev3c33_JmBI

7 3/4 minute video encompassing September through November 2008 Video includes enroute portion from Bessemer AL to Madison MS through cumulus clouds and the canyons of the cumulus field, Departure from KMBO into IMC and ILS into KHKS with 400 foot ceilings

Cloud and IMC encounters 2008 Part 4 of 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMBWGh7nn2s

9 1/2 minute video encompassing November only. IFR flight at sunrise above a cloud deck and the return IFR flight into a sunset. Not sure what was up with the stall horn during this video. My usual climb-out is 90 knots.
