Random Holding in IMC with ATC COMS- Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvq8YTH7iTA

Ceilings too high for approaches so I decided maintaining IMC proficiency would be more important.

Seem like the controller was having a tough day. Note what happened to 21 Alpha on his approaches as well as not permitting traffic into Charlie airspace..

3 ILS approaches into KJAN with ATC COMS - Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d53XwaE4cZM

Ceilings were perfect for more IMC time. FAF of ALLEN is 2200 and ceilings were averaging 1800 give or take so I knew I would be in the middle of the action

All en-route portions were timelapsed therefore ATC instructions are out of sync with the video to some degree.

Took me the three approaches into KJAN to realize that in high wind situations 500 fpm descent just won't work. I had to use a 300 fpm descent rate to maintain glide slope

Still always amazes me how ATC "works me in" as my first approach I was doing 50 knots ground speed. Needless to say, to be a good neighbor, 2nd and 3rd approaches, I did at 110 knots down to the middle marker :-)

First approach en-route was IMC as I was in the middle of the cloud deck, second, VMC on top and third was in and out of IMC at the bases of the cloud deck.

Been an awesome weekend in my committing aviation for me to make 5 videos! First three videos are my first glider experiences. Last two videos are my IFR flight to and from Meridian MS

First glider flight. Needless to say, it's way more work then IA work in my humble opinion. You are constantly flying the plane, no such thing as "coasting" to look for the airport. You coast, you lose valuable altitude needless to say. The videos outside the actual sensation I hope will give the viewer a sense of what it takes to soar the blue skies above.

Look Ma, NO Engine! First Glider flight - Part one takeoff to tow rope release

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSFUm7K5sNU

The video above starts from take off to tow plane rope release.

My first glider flight After tow rope release to landing Part two - air work to landing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__IeMFHeAMk

This video above contains finding lift within thermals, stalls and falls and landing. Approach reminds me of the space shuttle. Well duh, I guess so since the shuttle is a glider :-))

My first glider flight - part 3 of 3. Watching takeoffs and landings at Pisgah

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS6rzkGFNwA

Gliders are stealthy. Video above speaks for itself. No tripod handy, sorry for the jumpy images.

IFR flight from KMBO to KMEI with ATC COMS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp8dkojCcJQ

Friend and I went to Meridian for breakfast in the above video. 7 minute video includes an aborted take off, enroute was timelapsed and landing is wing view into KMEI.

IFR flight from KMEI to KMBO with ATC COMS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j2IcUVFWPo

Return flight home from Meridian in the above video. 8 minute video includes screenshots of flight plan filed via Flight Aware, CRAFT, airport diagram, take off, enroute timelapsed and landing KMBO. One also has to "admire" the hardware that I taxi by on my way to runway 22 in Meridian *big smile*

Wow those videos bring back some memories! I soloed glider when I was 15 because I wasn't old enough to do powered/fixed wing yet. They were so much fun, this video makes me think it's time to call the glider club 60 miles east, and maybe get something set up!

The ATC in the other one was funny (or a little scary seeing how GPS approaches are very common!)

Very cool STS vid redlegs! Surprisingly, that is pretty close to what it looks like for me here in Charleston, SC - several hundred miles away! And Allen - it's not the last launch (yet), just the last night launch.

Good point. At least you read my thoughts :D

Going on memory, I believe the last launch is slated for sometime in September?

Wow, three videos over such a short period of time. This one's for WWII fans and fans of Cessnas and anyone who would like to see it rain on my party (note last takeoff).

Friday I did some pattern work to get the engine nice and hot for the scheduled oil change so figure to bop around the pattern. Sorry for the text typos in video. No spell check in Windows Movie maker.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVgCATOyzrI

I left the engine level in video at it's actual level recorded by camera so you can hear better how the engine sounds during power changes as I go around the pattern. Normally in my videos, I reduce the volume of the engine by 30 percent so audio is more front and center.

Last segment is the entire pattern. I did a Vx climb to see what altitude I would end up by the end of the runway. This also gives one a good feel how I run my patterns as well as climb performance of my plane.

Landing judge comments always most welcomed! :D

This may be my last video with one niner four three lima if all goes to plan. My plane officially goes on the market tomorrow. :(

You're really going to sell the Sundowner Allen? And you don't think you'll miss it terribly? :(

You are right, No doubt I will miss 1943L! It's been an awesome bird for me inspite of the trials and tribs of maintaining an airworthy bird. Who ever gets this plane will be getting a good plane for all the TLC I have given.

It's them durn airport politics on a thread I about the KMBO politics that is driving me out of the ownership business.

For unscheduled maintenance, this would be a nightmare situation as the airport manager ran off an A&P working on a Sierra near me so I am stuck on using an A&P that I had nightmare experiences on the 30SL installation should I remain at KMBO.

Sooo, transitioning to non power flight will be my next aviation and video endeavors.

I got ya and I know it sucks - but, it's gonna be hard to ride those thermals 1/2 way across the country for Christmas trips, $100 cheeseburgers, etc now!

Ain't this the truth.... Believe me, between that and cloud surfing, this was a tough one to make but practicality has to come into play somewhere.

The plan is there but realistically knowing me it may end up lapsing. The only good rental planes in my immediate area is at KMBO.

Quality of planes at other neighboring airports (don't want to diss publicly) are substandard compared to the flight school planes at KMBO.
