USAirways B762 Weird Routing

Hi,
What’s going on here?
A USAirways B762 is en route from Philadelphia to somewhere in Louisiana I’ve never heard of.

Thanks in advance!

Don’t really have any good info or know that much about CRAF (I think that is what it is called) , but looks like maybe transporting our men and women back? If you look at the history this trip has been in and out of KARA a few times in the last month.

Since the airports listed in the destinations aren’t usual USAirway destinations, and if they were, they certainly wouldn’t normally have such large planes assigned to them, and the flight numbers aren’t valid on USAirways’ web site I’m going to make a guess here:

Either this is USAirways doing charters of some sort, or

It’s not really USAirways, but perhaps military/government flights being entered as USA as the call sign moving people around (destinations are in hurricane areas). FEMA?

I’d guess its a US Airways charter for the military or a sports team, or a flight to a maintenance shop.

It’s not really USAirways, but perhaps military/government flights being entered as USA as the call sign moving people around (destinations are in hurricane areas). FEMA?

In this case it would still be a charter because the US Government doesn’t own B762s. My guess is that they are chartered flights, but I’m not sure who they are chartered for.

In case you didn’t know, there’s a little action going on in the mideast that requires a lot of our people in uniform to attend. And a lot of these people are located near “large or unusual airports.” Hence, there’s a “lot of large aircraft flying into small or unusual airports.” (What is an unusual airport?)

As I have mentioned in another posting, flights operated by the largest carriers that are 4 digits long and begin with the number 9 are charter or ferry flights.

A suggestion: be sure to read all postings in the forum frequently. This would eliminate the many duplicate questions that are posted.

Damiross- thanks for the reply.

By unusual airport I mean this-

21-Dec-2005 A333/L Pierre Elliott Trudeau Int’l [CYUL] Philadelphia Int’l [KPHL] 03:06PM EST 04:20PM EST 1:14

USAirways serving Toronto from Philadelphia with an A333. It may be just me but that doesn’t make much sense when Washington gets CRJs.
Just my thoughts. Don’t flame me please

[CYUL] is Montreal, not Toronto (CYYZ).

I think you mean unusual flight as opposed to unusual airport.

The USAirways YUL-PHL with a A333 could mean any of the following:

-Diversion on a flight from Europe to PHL
-Replacement for an aircraft that went out of service
-A charter. This would be easy to figure out if the flight number was provided. If it was a 4 digit number starting with 9, it would more than likely be a charter

  • A military charter that went to YUL and then continued to PHL or was ferried from YUL to PHL. Again, a flight number would be great to figure this out.
-Some maintenance was performed on the aircraft at YUL and the aircraft was operated as a regular flight on the return to PHL
-Training - though highly unlikely because most flight training is performed in simulartors

Damiross,
YUL and YYZ and all the other Canadian codes confuse me  My bad…

Here is the flight info-
The A333 flew USA9238 from Philadelphia to Montreal on Dec. 16, and returned as USA9239 from Montreal to Philadelphia on Dec. 21.

The flight numbers could be charters considering they do start with 9.

If you look almost all of those flights involve CLT, so it is being used most likely for a sports team. If you look at the destinations and compare them to a game schedule for one of charlotte’s teams, you will figure it out.

Asaro2004-
I’m not doubting your sports team idea but the USAirways a/c are probably using CLT because USAirways has a major hub there.
Just some small info.

JetBlast

I’m not sure what sports team it could be, I’m doubting that one. They’ve made multiple trips to Louisiana over a short time period. The only sports teams currently based in Charlotte are the Panthers (NFL), the Bobcats (NBA), and the Checkers (ECHL).

The Panthers played in Baton Rouge, LA on December 18th. Nothing else in that area.

The Bobcats haven’t played anywhere in that area on those dates.

Not only have the Checkers not played in that area, there isin’t even an ECHL team down there (not much Hockey support in LA?).

Any other ideas, maybe still relief flights of some kind?

Gibbmusic

-------Update------------

Definitely not the Panthers, here are their charters:

Gibbmusic,
I think your idea is correct. However I don’t know why they would use a small airfield like this when New Orleans Intl Airport is functioning.
I will look up the location of KARA to see where it is in relation to New Orleans.
