Airbus 320: "Ranplanplan" which is the name of a dog in a french comic illustrated album of the Cowboy "Lucky Luke". This dog always does something different from what you asked it to do.

Wow, those are all new to me! "Twin Tailed Tennis Court"? Is that for the vastness of the wing blended into the fuselage?

Douglas DC8 - "The Dumpster" It's like flying a big steel trash dumpster. It goes were you point it but it wears you out if you want it to change directions.

Boeing 727 - "Harley" It was loud, fast, and made oil stains. But it was cool to look at and drive.

Never heard of "Skychicken" before. At Embry-Riddle, we referred to them as "Chickenhawks" - but that essentially works out to the same thing in the end!

Before the Douglas A-3 was a "Whale" (which I thought referred specifically to the KA-3 tanker version) when it was originally designated the A3D (before DOD reorganization of aircraft designations in 1962) it was referred to as "All 3 Dead" because the crew had downward-firing ejection seats - which didn't do a darn thing for them in the event of a "cold shot" off the deck!

Similarly, the Douglas F4D Skyray was the "Ford"

and the Grumman S2F Tracker was the "Stoof"

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was also "Heinemann's Hotrod" in honor of its designer.

There are many of us who believe that, with the exception of MEDEVAC drivers, SPAD drivers were the finest pilots to ever grab a joystick.

I totally agree with that remark.

I recently heard another one that must be amended to my earlier post:
The Grumman E-1B Tracer electronic warfare variant of the S2F/C-1A aircraft that had the huge airfoil shaped radar antenna on top (almost as big as the whole rest of the aircraft) was called the "Stoof with a roof"

As a former Whale Crewman I need to correct you. the A-3D (and all others) had NO ejection seats. I believe the
B-66 (the AF Version) had the downwards. We refereed to all models (EA-3, TA-3, RA-3, EKA-3) as Whales.

Also the A-4 when I was on the Ranger was only in reserve outfits and when they came aboard one week for CarQuals they
referred to it as "The Scooter"

My mistake. Did some further research and it turns out it was nicknamed "All 3 Dead" exactly because it had no ejection seats.

Wikipedia (always right-never wrong, yeah right!) says that McDonnell-Douglas even got sued in court in 1973 by the widow of a crewman who was killed in Vietnam supposedly because of that very fact.

And as long as we're being so perfectly correct, as a "former Whale crewman" you should know that there was never any such thing as a Douglas "A-3D" aircraft. The pre-1962 designation was "A3D" with a sub-type dash number suffix as in A3D-1 and A3D-2 which after 1962 became the A-3A and A-3B as well as various Trainer, Tanker, Photo Recon, and Electronic warfare variants:

A3D-1P (aka RA-3A) photo recon
A3D-1Q (aka EA-3A) electronic warfare
A3D-2T (aka TA-3B) trainer
KA-3B tanker (apparently there was no tanker variant until after 1962*)
and VA-3B VIP transport (*ditto)

There were dual role variants, too:
EKA-3B tanker/ew aircraft
ERA-3B photo recon/ew aircraft

Apparently, there was never an A3D-3 or -4 which would have become an A-3C or A-3D post-1962.
