This is just an idea.
(Example: This morning the weather in KDTW was VFR but they were stacking them up all over the sky. Why? Someone asked and was given a non-committal reply. Almost all arrivals had to hold over POLAR intersection.)
That made me think: if pilots could send a text message to flightaware about the current holdings or delays (airport status) and then the website could have a ticker to display the delays so other pilots would be aware of the current status.
