The 3.x upgrade for $10 was offered to me within 20 min of taking the iPod T out of the box, so I was very grouchy. But then I discovered that the old OS never remembered the security info for my home wireless network, so I was typing in the PW every few minutes. That's when I decided the $10 was part of the original purchase price. :x I haven't been sorry I did that.

It might be getting about time for you to consider it again, for the FA app for example.

I am whispering this "quietly" as I don't want the Itouch Gods to turn against me. Other then some apps freezing, I have had not one ounce of problems like you describe

My wireless settings hold AND, I have it networked into my computer where I can copy files to the unit wirelessly instead of using Itunes software. App is called Discover (WIFI). This allows me to use it as a portable hard drive as well as play music or videos. The copying is done through any web browser and you access the Itouch via IP address on your wireless network.

I just hate the thought of fixing what works, no different then me continuing to use XP I guess on my home computer. I use it primarily for web browsing and the usual brainless games :D that can be downloaded.

One tip I just learned this past weekend. For those apps that act cantankerous and stops the Itouch cold in it's tracks to a frozen state, if you hold the power button and push and hold the circular button, in about 5 seconds, this forces a hard reboot of the unit.

What version do you currently use?

Hi all,

I think I found a bug in the new app. After you install if you try and search for a tailnumber (before having done anything else besides log in) the app crashes. I was able to do a tail number search after having searched for an airline flight but not before.

Looking forward to future updates.

I'm unable to reproduce your issue. Does it only happen the first time that you open the app, or every time you open the app?

If I am looking under the correct area it says Version 2.2.1 (5H11a) under Settings, and then General.

No real reason to upgrade other than some app compatibility issues. The upgrade has caused me some problems with the Wi-Fi. The connection drops out randomly, and sometimes it "forgets" the password on a secure network...while being used.

I have used FA for years and just found the iPhone app. Sadly, it crashes repeatedly on my iPhone 3GS. FA, if you take a look at the comments in the app store, you can see that the app is seriously buggy. I haven't seen a worse "star" rating for a mainstream app.

Please take the time to make the app more stable (usable, even) before adding any new features.

Thanks!

I am new to this website and downloaded the iPhone 3GS App back in October. I really like the app since I commute across 3 times zones. No problems with it crashing but I do have a "user" question someone might be able to shed some light on.

When I am tracking a flight from coast-to-coast the departure time is correct for the local time zone (ie. 10:16AM), however the arrival status says 6:38PM UTC. It always appears correctly on the actual website, I double checked all my settings, yet the iPhone app still never corrects for local time zone?

Suggestions?

Any airport with an unknown timezone gets UTC instead of local.

There's a bug in the current release where airports in Arizona are all unknown timezone, so they get UTC. We'll fix that in the next release.

That answers that, thank you very much for your time. Just out of curiosity, any idea when a new update may be available?

When I go in to the iPhone app, it comes up with the plane I'm tracking and the map at the bottom of the screen. When I tap the map, it switches pages, brings up the back button with a blank screen, then crashes. Any ideas?

We fixed the big map issue server side. Is your client still crashing?

Folks,

I'll qualify my question (and/or suggestion) with the fact that I'm a bit of an air travel enthusiast. My fiancee may claim that's a bit of an understatement.

The very first page I ever bookmarked, moments after purchasing my iPhone, was the large airport activity map of my home airport, MSP. The sole purpose of this was so I could easily determine, when I was outside, which aircraft were flying overhead. (Say I'm outside, poking around in the garden, and I notice a heavy overhead. Which flight is it? Where is it going? Who operates it? This seemed to answer all of those desires.)

The old airport activity map was great for this. I was excited when the new one was released, because it had the ability to selectively add or remove inbount and outbound flights. If I wanted to know more about that heavy I saw... clearly not an inbound or outbound aircraft... it seemed reasonable to clear up my map, making it easier to identify which plane it might be. Naturally, that's a good feature.

The new map works great on the desktop. However, sadly, it causes the iPhone some pain. Since the device isn't able to translate my "tap" and "swipe" gestures into mouse events, it doesn't allow me to "hover" on a mapped aircraft. Because of this, I can see the aircraft above me, depicted on the map, but I can't tell what they are. :(!

Are there plans to add an airport activity map to the iPhone app, or is it possible to add a "classic style" map link on the regular flightaware page? Or, perhaps, detect that the page is being viewed in Safari on the iPhone and react accordingly?

Thanks for your consideration!
Brooks

Take a look at the site again in Safari - we just rolled out the first wave of mobile improvements.

Excellent! I think that will do the trick! It would be great, at some point, to also be able to do things like turn inbound, outbound, and in-vicinity aircraft on and off, yet retain the labeling as it exists today. However, my iPhone loves the new mobile version a lot more than the standard version - by extension, I do, too. :)

Thanks again! Awesome work.

When I get a summary status on a comercial flight all dates show as Dec 31, 2000 and the times as 2:00PM. The cities and aircraft types are correct and the map shows the track. The date and time are hosed.
I'm running on a 3G iphone with the current OS.

Help?
