Small plane crashes into High Rock Lake NC

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man and a woman are dead after a single-engine plane crashed into High Rock Lake on Friday afternoon.
FAA officials said a Cessna Columbia crashed near Goat Island on the Rowan County side of the lake around 1:45 p.m.
Names will not be released until next-of-kin has been notified. One body has been pulled from the lake, but the other body has not yet been recovered, local rescue officials said.
Rescue officials suspended recovery efforts until 9 a.m. Saturday due to fog and losing darkness.
The plane is in about 15 feet of water. The wingtip of the plane could be seen sticking out of the water, and debris and fuel could be seen floating around the lake.
Jack Robertson, a line technician at the Davidson County Airport in Lexington, said the  Cessna plane left the airport around 1:15 p.m.
Officials with local race shops said the victims were parts vendors from Michigan who spent time at several local shops. The victims were not direct employees of any of those shops.
The victims were leaving Lexington on Friday to fly to Florida.
The FAA is still investigating the cause of the crash.
