Radarcape receiver as a MLAT feeder to FlightAware

Hi,

I would like to get more details on how to activate MLAT feeding of my Radarcape receiver.

My actual reports received (Site 16209) don’t include MLAT reports and I don’t know why?

Any suggestions?

Best regards,
Martin

The radarcape doesn’t support MLAT with Flightaware as far as I am aware.
I just feed mine into an RPI3 running piaware using beast-splitter.

John is right the built in flightaware client on the radarcape is quite old and doesn’t do MLAT.

To get the MLAT to work for you the easiest way is to set up a pi to connect to the radarcape and send your data that way (disable the built in client)

i use the piaware sdcard image as it supports radarcape without any grief.

the configuration file is /boot/piaware-config.txt

in the ‘receiver configuration’ section set receiver type to radarcape

in the bit that says ‘for a recevier type of radarcape…’
set radarcape-host 192.168.xxx.xxx whatever the IP address of your Radarcape is

set receiver port to 30005 default for radarcape and you should be up and running

And despite what they say, mine works so much better with the jetvision cavity filter and hab/nevis amp/filter. I get about 400 messages per second better with this setup. radarcape, hab/nevis amp, jetvision cavity filter then antenna(in this order)
I am in busy/noisy NYC so your mileage may vary.

You can have the amp and filter near the radarcape and power the amp from the USB port if you don’t have a better method of sending bias-t power to the amp.

(I also got much better results on a mode S Beast using the same setup).
