Ugh, I've been checking Amazon religiously and the one time I don't check it actually becomes available and now progressively sells out. Now it shows as not available until 4/27, and doesn't deliver until 5/2 which is a Monday, which means I won't be able to do the install until the following weekend, the 7/8th. So much for back in stock in mid-April...

Suits me fine - just ordered.

I usually receive my items ahead of schedule from Amazon, although sometimes when there are multiple shipping options and I don't select the fastest one, they seem to hold it at the distribution center until the day before the scheduled arrival and THEN ship it.

Received mine today (along with 50ft USB cable). I'm surprised the contents were all in the package. Both ends were open and the smaller items could have simply fallen out.

Currency conversion error -- now £13.27!

I was in the same situation. I thought I'd be able to pick one up at Fry's. They didn't have one, so I got an RCA-SMA adapter instead. Since my home-made antenna is made from an RCA component, this allowed me to remove one item from the chain.

One solution is planeplotter, found at:
http://www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter.htm#download
There is a 25 pound registration fee, cheap for what you get. IMO

+1 for this.

I wish Amazon would ship locally - sick of paying big dollars for shipping.

(western Sydney here....)

This there a reason why Amazon Australia is excluded from the distribution of the Pro Stick or why Amazon US/UK/Canada are restricted from selling them to an Australian address?

I know of five FlightAware feeders here in Sydney who would like to update their hardware with the Pro Stick.

Thank you for your time.

Any limitations or restrictions are not our policy -- we're working to improve international distribution.

Just received the antenna yesterday. Very good construction and lightweight. I'll post pics of my setup in the proper thread once I get the antenna pole. :)

Most likely you will need a filter also, but for now try without filter. Adjust gain to find the optimum value.

I have not ordered a filter initially, and found by trial & error that I get best result for gain settings from 30 to 35 dB. I then ordered a filter, and found that with filter, the best gain setting is around 45 dB.

After adding the filter, the performance boosted by about 25% to 30%. Boost by filter is not universal, it depends on location. For locations with strong TV, FM, Cell Phone & other communication signals, filter gives a big boost, otherwise it gives little or no advantage. The only practical way to find out if a filter is needed is to try it.

Thanks i am going to try, never did it before and if there is anybody in the area that can help me set it up properly i would appreciate it,see i have been injured since i was a teenager and do not drive, due to a head injury and money is extremely tight,so limited budget and the only way i can do it is somebody donated me the windows laptop. I am right in the middle of the transition area between Atlanta ARTCC and Memphis ARTCC sectors, halfway between Memphis And Atlanta and halfway between Nashville And Birmingham.
Thanks!

Hi guys,

At £17 incl PnP here in the UK, just ordered one of these, as an upgrade from my basic NooElec dongle...

My current dongle gets c51 ppm, do these FA Pro's use TXCO based and have c0.5ppm shift?

Also, I have my current dongle running into a habAmp...

Am I better to:

- replace my current dongle with the FA pro, keep the HabAMp in and tune the gain down
- replace the dongle and remove the habAmp (using dongle amp, but *no filter*
- leave it as is, and use the FA pro on my second station?

For the price, I'll find a use for it! :)

**EDIT - scrub that, cancelled (impulse) order **

- No mention of TXCO
- The habAmp is probably better for the amp'ing, and includes a filter
- will save £17 towards a better stick for my situation

Looks a good stick for those with no existing amp tho! :)

I would suggest, keep the HabAMp in and tune the gain down.
I have the same setup and gain is set to 29.7. Graphs suggest the receiver is in overload (noise at -10 most of the day) but flights/positions say otherwise. However I am in a very busy location.

I've just got (on it's way to me) a HabAmp to go before my Flightaware stick to see if I can get anything more out of my setup.

Currently:

Pi 3 -- Flightaware Pro Stick -- Flightaware filter -- 3 meter coax cable -- Flightaware aerial.

Was going to put the HabAmp in place of the Flightaware filter to make:

Pi 3 -- Flightaware Pro Stick -- HabAmp -- 3 meter coax cable -- Flightaware aerial.

but was wondering if there was any advantage to keep the Flightaware filter and place the HabAmp either before of after it in the setup.

Been there tried that...
The HabAmp filter replaces the FA filter, certainly try the options as you have the equipment, but suspect it will end up on the spares shelf.

Are Amazon (UK) getting more stock of the FA Pro stick in the near future?

I did wonder why it disappeared from my "saved for later" basket... Might finally buy one once the new stock comes in... Need to build new adapter lead first.
