My apologies if this has been asked before but does anyone know the amount of data that is continuously uploaded to FA - specifically with 3.5? Could it affect my download speed somehow?

Depends on your environment but it can be on the order of perhaps 1-3 kB/s (regular data) and 1-10kB/s (mlat)
Thank you for putting my mind at rest: slow down in BB speeds happened at the same time I installed 3.5.0
I can sleep soundly now.
