What do you think about the new D-jet? I think it is pitiful, as far as range and weight and all the specs...

Well lets now, max cruise at FL250 (ceiling) 315Kts true, 900 NM range, For and INCREASED price of $1.89 million. And then theres this, IT ONLY HAS ONE ENGINE! and like i said above, Its hideous. Poor performance, below RVSM service ceiling, piss poor range, and a hefty price tag, sounds to me like its gonna bomb.

For less money you can get a well equiped Citation, (or other biz jet) that carries more people flys higher, faster and further,

You be the judge

Yeah, the ONE ENGINED thing is what gets me too. For around that price, I'd probably take a Mustang, but who knows about that one either...

So the consensus is we dont love the jet, and i know i said i hate the fact that its single engine and i do, flying that high and that far on one engine is disconcerning. But what do we think about the piper jet?

Again im not crazy about the single engine thing but it does have considerably better number. what do you all think?

You guys are all missing the point. By only having one engine, this becomes a jet that you can afford to operate. A Cessna Citation can be had for less money (a used one), and it is more of an airplane, but it burns a LOT more fuel. I would love to own a jet, but I cannot afford to buy the gas. The Diamond jet is getting closer to what I would like. You can cruise 250 knots on 40 gallons per hour.
My dream jet is even smaller and lighter, has a 700 pound thrust engine, and will cruise at 240 knots on less than 20 gallons per hour. Now THAT I can afford to operate.
Remember, a Bonanza often sells for more than the same year Baron, and an Arrow often sells for about the same as a Seneca, the reason is that the average person cannot afford to operate a twin engine airplane.

If you wanna go 240 KTS you can do that in a meridian, Or even the new Acclaim will do damn near 240 (they advertise 242 @FL 250 at best power cruise) thats why we are so so dissinterested to put it nicely in the single engine jets. Youre absolutly right about the fact that you can get a very nicely equipped citation for less money. I think i even said that up there ^ But for that you're doing 360 kts+ with highly increased range, however like you said you're burning more gas. Thats what is to be expected in a jet, the old saying is true "you get what you pay for" and jet owners expect the best! For that kind of money you should be well surpassing piston/turboprop speeds. Thats my opinion and im sure others would back me up.

Its a cadilac vs. a corolla dude, you pay more you get more and get there in style.

Correct me if I am wrong ( Rolling Eyes I know I'm gonna regret that), but another old saying goes "if you have to ask you can't afford it".....Why spend fat money on even a VLJ if you can't afford the oil bill?

If I was interested in a turboprop, then yes, the Meridian is a great airplane (maybe). But who doesn't dream of a jet? There is nothing like a jet, even if it only goes up to 25,000 feet and only cruises economically at 240 knots. Sure, you guys dream big - but my dreams are realistic. For what I can afford to buy and operate, my dream jet is all there is. I'll take it over a turboprop any day!
